Is Giorgio Armani Beauty Cruelty Free?

The short answer: No, Giorgio Armani Beauty is not cruelty free.

The long answer: Giorgio Armani Beauty is a luxury brand owned by L’Oréal. It offers makeup, skin care, and fragrances for men and women.

The brand answered the question “Does your company test on animals?” on the FAQs section of its US website, stating, “No. Giorgio Armani does not use animals to test its products, and does not have animal testing conducted by anyone else to support our product safety review. Instead, Giorgio Armani ensures product safety through L’Oréal’s research and development of state-of-the-art alternative methods to animal testing, including the use of reconstructed skin models. Others, completely independent of L’Oréal and outside the direction or control of L’Oréal, might do animal testing pursuant to their local requirements.”

The last statement is connected to Giorgio Armani Beauty being sold in China. Because their items are sold in that lucrative Asian market, the beauty brand (as well as its sister brands Lancôme and L’Oréal) has to comply with the government’s laws. This includes giving Chinese health officials or authorised third parties permission to test their products on animals. Unless Giorgio Armani Beauty stops selling its products in China, it cannot be considered completely cruelty free.
