The short answer: No, RoC Skincare is not entirely cruelty free.
The long answer: Originating in Paris, RoC Skincare was launched in 1957 with the help of Dr. Jean-Charles Lissarrague, a French pharmacist from the Rogé Cavaillès pharmacy. Lissarrague worked closely with dermatologists to create hypoallergenic skincare formulations using retinol and vitamin E. Since 1993, the skincare line was owned by the American consumer goods and pharmaceutical company Johnson & Johnson until it was bought by Gryphon Investors in 2019.
On its official website’s FAQs section, RoC Skincare states, “We do not test on animals anywhere in the world.” However, it does not have any cruelty free certifications from organisations such as PETA and Leaping Bunny. Cruelty Free Collections also reports that RoC is possibly sold in China, a country that still carries out mandatory product testing on animals. Because of these facts, we cannot consider RoC Skincare as 100% cruelty free.
